St MacCullin’s Bells arrive at The Lusk Cultural Center
St MacCullin's Bells

These remarkable bells were created by artist Holger Lönze for Heritage Week 2026. They were cast during a live demonstration at Lusk Community Cultural Centre using traditional medieval methods, offering visitors a fascinating glimpse into the skills and techniques of the past.
Bells of this type were used within Lusk's monastic settlement between the 5th and 12th centuries. The St MacCullin's Bells, honour Lusk's 5th-century patron saint and monastic founder, Naomh MacCuillinn. The Irish word cuillinn means "holly," with MacCuillinn translating as "Son of Holly."
The completed bells will soon go on display at Lusk Community Cultural Centre, creating a lasting connection between Lusk's ancient heritage and its modern cultural life.
